POST- MVA Therapy

Supporting Recovery After a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)

Experiencing a motor vehicle accident can have wide-ranging and lasting effects on both the body and mind. At Novelia Psychotherapy and Counselling Services, I provide specialized support for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related challenges post-MVA. Services are currently offered online across Ontario, and in-person sessions in Barrie, Ontario will be available as of April 2025.

Areas of Focus

My approach addresses the multifaceted impacts of a motor vehicle accident, including:

  • Chronic pain management and coping strategies
  • Emotional challenges: anxiety, depression, irritability, frustration, low mood
  • Cognitive difficulties: memory, attention, processing speed, executive functioning
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD
  • Sleep disturbances and fatigue
  • Eating and appetite changes
  • Social and relationship difficulties stemming from accident-related stress
  • Adjustment and identity challenges after life-altering events

Integrated, Multidisciplinary Approach

I bring years of experience as a rehabilitation therapist and case manager, working closely with personal injury lawyers, occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, and multidisciplinary teams to support recovery from both the mental and physical effects of MVA. This background allows me to integrate therapeutic interventions with practical strategies for daily functioning, rehabilitation, and long-term well-being.

Therapeutic Methods

The approaches I use are evidence-based and tailored to each client, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for managing anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms
  • Trauma-informed therapy for PTSD and complex PTSD
  • Mindfulness and self-regulation techniques for emotional and physiological stress
  • Cognitive rehabilitation support to address memory, attention, and executive functioning
  • Coping strategies for chronic pain, sleep, and lifestyle adjustments

Goals of Therapy

Through therapy, clients can:

  • Enhance emotional regulation and reduce trauma-related symptoms
  • Improve cognitive functioning and daily performance
  • Rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and sense of agency
  • Navigate changes in social, familial, and occupational relationships
  • Develop sustainable strategies for long-term recovery and wellness

Experience and Expertise

With a foundation in rehabilitation therapy and case management, I have spent years helping clients navigate the complex aftermath of MVAs, supporting them in both mental health recovery and reintegration into daily life. My work is collaborative, holistic, and trauma-informed, respecting each client’s unique journey while drawing on multidisciplinary knowledge to guide recovery.
